Bolivarian solidarity statement from the "ANSWER Coalition" in the USA

"We stand with the Bolivarian Revolution"
2014-02-27 Statement from the "ANSWER Coalition" [http://www.answercoalition.org/sf/news/we-stand-with-the-bolivarian.html]:
The ANSWER Coalition extends its full solidarity to the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro, and the masses of people who are courageously defending their revolution from U.S.-backed violence and destabilization. We demand that the U.S. government immediately end all interference in Venezuela and respect the people’s democratic choice and right to self-determination.
Beginning earlier this month, an extreme, fascist element of the opposition launched a wave of violence aimed at destabilizing the country and provoking a coup to remove democratically-elected President Nicolás Maduro. Demonstrations in support of the government have been attacked, and barricades guarded by armed gangs of opposition supporters have severely disrupted life in many major cities. Many government supporters have been murdered by these gangs, and others have died because of road accidents or being unable to receive medical attention because of the blockades.
The corporate media in both Venezuela and the United States, as well as the U.S. government, have been working hard to spread lies about the character of these demonstrations, in line with their overarching goal of assisting the overthrow of the Bolivarian Revolution. It is critical to understand that these protests do not represent the progressive demands of poor and working people, but the desperate, violent actions of a tiny group in society that is terrified of losing the wealth and power it has accumulated through centuries of exploitation. These groups receive regular infusions of millions of dollars from the U.S. government to keep their isolated organizations alive.
This violence has been exacerbated by what is accurately called an “economic war” being waged by Venezuelan capitalists, who are hoarding goods and inflating the country’s currency to artificially induce inflation and shortages. Again, this is being spun by the global corporate media, which falsely portrays the situation as an economic crisis caused by the government’s policies.
The attempt by U.S. imperialism to overthrow the Bolivarian revolutionary government in Venezuela must be seen in the broader historical pattern of intervention in Latin America. There has not been a single instance in the last century where the United States did not utilize its economic, political and military power in an effort to defeat, subvert or overthrow progressive movements and governments in Latin America.
In 1954, the CIA overthrew the progressive government of Árbenz in Guatemala. In 1961, the U.S. led a proxy invasion into Cuba and has maintained an economic blockade since. The U.S. government supported the fascist military government in Brazil to defeat the left. The CIA led the economic destabilization and eventual overthrow of the socialist Salvador Allende government of Chile in 1973. When the Sandinistas took power in 1979 after toppling the Somoza dictatorship, the U.S. government launched the so-called Contra War until the Sandinistas were finally ejected from power. It was the CIA working with the Salvadoran military that killed tens of thousands in El Salvador. In 1983, the U.S. government invaded Grenada and in 1989 it invaded Panama. Each and every intervention is given a new rationale, but the bottom line is that U.S. banks and the Military-Industrial Complex want to completely dominate Latin America’s land, labor and natural resources.
The ANSWER Coalition is committed to demonstrating our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their government not only in words, but in the streets. We have already initiated and participated in protests across the country, often confronting supporters of the fascist opposition.
We will continue to take to the streets and demand “U.S. hands off Venezuela!” Long live the Bolivarian Revolution!

Bolivarian solidarity from the People of Chicago, and Los Angeles

"Chicago and Los Angeles join nationwide protests in solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution; U.S. hands off Venezuela!"
2014-02-27 from "ANSWER Coalition" [www.answercoalition.org/national/news/chcago-los-angeles-Venezuela-solidarity.html]:
Since U.S.-backed, right-wing gangs began a violent destabilization campaign in Venezuela, people across the United States have been taking to the streets to stand with Venezuela's Bolivarian Revolution. Below are reports from just two of the many actions that have taken place.

Chicago -

On Feb. 22, supporters of the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela and its democratically elected president Nicolas Maduro took to the streets to protest a right-wing demonstration taking place in front of the Plaza of the Americas in downtown Chicago.
Chanting “Maduro, amigo, el pueblo está contigo” and “Chávez vive, la lucha sigue,” supporters put up a spirited opposition to the right-wing demonstration. Some homemade signs read “Thank You Venezuelan Government and CITGO for Energy Aid to the poor of the U.S.” and “No US intervention in Venezuela.”
The right-wing protesters showed their true colors by displaying a large American flag next to the Venezuelan flag, signifying their ties to the U.S. government that has no interest in the plight of Venezuela’s poor and historically oppressed.
The people of Chicago will continue to stand in solidarity with those defending the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela and Latin America as long as it is under attack. The continued deepening of the many progressive gains of the revolution is of central importance to people struggling for justice everywhere.
Supporters of this demonstration included: The Venezuela Solidarity Committee - Chicago, ANSWER Chicago, Veterans for Peace-Chicago, Midwest Workers Association, Chicago Anti-War Committee, March 19 Anti-War Coalition, La Voz de los de Abajo, All-African People’s Revolutionary Party and US Palestinian Community Network.

Los Angeles -

On Sunday, Feb. 23, over 100 people rallied in Los Angeles in support of the Bolivarian Revolution and against the right-wing efforts to overthrow the government.
Initiated and organized in just two days by the ANSWER Coalition, LA Simon Bolivar Association, FMLN – LA and FSLN – LA, the rally was held in MacArthur Park, a bustling heart of the Central and South American immigrant community.
With banners and signs reading “We stand with the Bolivarian Revolution” and “U.S. hands OFF Venezuela,” chanting “la, la, Maduro no se va!,” demonstrators packed the corner of the busy intersection, as a range of Spanish-language media covered the event.
At the energetic action, organizers announced that the show of solidarity would continue and called an action Thursday at the CNN building to highlight the U.S. media manipulation.

"Supporters of Bolivarian Revolution counter right-wing protesters outside OAS; Hands off Venezuela!"2014-02-20 from "ANSWER Coalition" [http://www.answercoalition.org/national/news/supporters-of-bolivarian-revolution-OAS.html]:

As the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) took up the current political situation in Venezuela as part of its meeting in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Feb. 19, demonstrators once again took to the streets, some in support of the revolutionary government, and others in support of the right-wing opposition. Just four days earlier, a similar situation played out in front of the Venezuelan Embassy.
The OAS, an organization dominated by the United States, is renowned throughout progressive circles in Latin America and around the world as a tool to advance U.S. interests in Latin America and the Caribbean, and it lived up to its reputation in Wednesday's meeting "express[ing] their concern ..., echo[ing] the call for calm ..., and urg[ing] the beginning of a dialogue," according to their press release.
A number of progressive groups from the D.C. Metro Area, including the ANSWER Coalition, mobilized to show support for the Bolivarian Revolution and oppose U.S. or OAS intervention, continuing to fight the illusion that the people of the United States support the CIA-backed anti-democratic coup attempt of last week.
Our multinational, working-class presence visibly angered the right-wing demonstrators, who spewed racist, anti-working class slurs like, “Get a job!” and “Who paid you?” They hurled these childish, bigoted insults between chants like “OAS: Do your job.” The right-wing demonstration was almost exclusively attended by wealthy Venezuelan exiles, many of whom are students at expensive private universities, and their friends.
If their blatantly anti-working class stance was unclear before today, their pleas to the OAS—a thinly veiled appeal for U.S. intervention in Venezuela—make them clear as day.

Hands Off Venezuela! Show Solidarity, Feb. 17th, in San Francisco!

Bay Area organizations, including ANSWER SF, are calling an Emergency Demonstration in Solidarity with Venezuela, Monday, Feb. 17 at 12 noon, at 24th St and Mission St, SF, to protest the right-wing violent attacks in Venezuela against peaceful demonstrators and to express solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela. Read an article from the Council on Hemispheric Affairs with more details [http://www.coha.org/venezuelan-government-shows-restraint-and-resolve-in-the-face-of-anti-chavista-mayhem/].
Last year, after Hugo Chávez's illness became terminal, U.S.-backed and financed opposition groups escalated their anti-government actions. Immediately after Nicolás Maduro's election as President in April 2013, fascist groups killed several pro-government activists.
On Feb. 12, 2014, during peaceful marches to commemorate the 200th anniversary of La Victoria of the Independence war, armed gunmen fired into crowds, killing three. Dozens were wounded. This attacks are very similar to what took place before the failed right-wing coup of April 2002, when Hugo Chávez was overthrown for 48 hours.
The opposition groups are becoming openly confrontational with pro-government forces. Right-wing Voluntud Popular Party leader Leopoldo López, when asked when the attacks would end, stated, "when we get rid of those who govern us."
The U.S. media is greatly distorting the truth. The first news claimed that pro-government forces fired the shots. That is a deliberate lie. The shooters and gangs were opposition forces. Watch this video (in Spanish only) of a comrade of Juancho Montoya, who was murdered while peacefully marching. Video of friend who saw Juancho Montoya murdered by fascists:
Spread the word! Bring your friends, placards and solidarity!
The protest is sponsored by ANSWER Coalition, Bay Area Latin America Solidarity Coalition, Committee for Political Education, FMLN-North California, National Committee to Free the Cuban Five, Party for Socialism and Liberation, School of the Americas Watch, Task Force on the Americas, Workers World Party.

Bolivarian solidarity against wealthy supporters of fascism in Washington D.C.

"Venezuelan opposition shows its right-wing, racist and anti-working class character in the streets of Washington, D.C.; A tale of two demonstrations: Eyewitness report"
2014-02-16 from "ANSWER Coalition" [http://www.answercoalition.org/national/news/protest-venezuelan-opposition.html]:
In front of the Venezuelan Embassy - Washington, D.C., Feb. 15, 2014

Yesterday (Sat., Feb. 15) at a demonstration in Washington, D.C., the racist, privileged and pampered character of the ultra-right-wing opponents of Venezuela’s revolutionary government revealed itself in a grotesque display.
Vividly unmasking the true class nature of the opposition to Venezuela’s progressive government, the enraged children of Venezuela’s upper classes, who live a coddled existence in Washington, D.C., yelled insults and racist slurs against a multi-racial group of demonstrators who rallied for six hours to condemn the U.S. government and the CIA for trying to carry out another coup against the progressive government led by Nicolas Maduro.
Standing in front of Venezuela’s Embassy in the Georgetown section of Washington, D.C., the demonstration was one of many taking place all over the United States in opposition to the CIA’s effort to carry out another sabotage and destabilization in Latin America.
“We, the people of the United States, are mobilizing around the country with a simple message: the government of the United States is trying to use the tactics of economic disruption and sabotage to overthrow the Bolivarian Revolution. The U.S. government speaks in our name but we, the people, oppose this policy,” explained one of the demonstrators over a bullhorn.
The empowered children of Venezuela’s elite went nuts.
“You are Cuban mother****ers” they chanted. Pointing at Black demonstrators, they yelled: “Go back to your homeless shelter.”  Stylish, well dressed and chic, Venezuela’s elite arrived for several hours in expensive cars to conduct a counterdemonstration. They brought a team of four impeccably groomed, small, purebred dogs adorned in costumes, and proceeded to pose for pictures with them.
They reflected the typical arrogance of those who have lived with servants throughout life. They spent their entire time pouring out abuse and hatred toward the rally of working-class people who had come out because they oppose the U.S. government using its vast power in an attempt to derail a revolution that is so clearly benefiting Venezuela’s poor.
They called the multi-racial, progressive demonstrators “stupid” and “lazy” and, of course, “communists.” Americans fighting for civil rights or an end to the Vietnam War recognize these echoes from our own homegrown right-wing bigots. But the arrogance of Venezuela’s affluent community in Washington, D.C., seemed boundless.
These empowered rich kids from Venezuela – who go to Georgetown University, which costs over $58,000 a year to attend – screamed out at the demonstration that was attended mostly by working-people in Washington, D.C., “why don’t you get a job” and “who are you” and “go home.”
It was a bad showing for Venezuela’s upper classes. Even though they were in Washington, D.C., they acted like they owned the place. They are an owning class and they cannot conceal their arrogance. They are convinced that they should always own Venezuela’s vast wealth while the majority of the population lives in dire poverty. Why not own the streets of Georgetown too while yelling at working-class people in Washington, D.C., that they should “go home!”
They were dripping with class privilege. These coddled teenagers and twenty-somethings whipped themselves into a frenzy. They gave people the middle finger, and yelled and screamed things such as “Who’s paying you?” and “Come over to our side and we’ll pay you twice the minimum wage.”
They came in shifts so they wouldn’t have to stay out in the cold too long. But it was clear that the progressive demonstration was determined to stay. The temperatures were below freezing. There was a stiff wind, making it feel even colder, and snow for part of the time. The numbers of the right wing dwindled and dwindled. At 4:30 p.m., the last of them retreated and the progressive demonstrators raised their signs and banners, and chanted: “The people united will never be defeated.”

"Emergency Demonstration in Solidarity with Venezuela"
2014-02-15 from "ANSWER Coalition" [www.answercoalition.org/sf/news/venezuela-demo-02-17-2014.html]:
